TRIBUTE TO JEANNE BRODEUR

Jeanne Brodeur

Founding Chair, Woman to Woman Campaign
October 22, 1950 - October 19, 2009

A MESSAGE FROM
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
PACIFIC SHORES HEMATOLOGY-ONCOLOGY FOUNDATION

Jeanne M. Brodeur Tributes

Jeanne told us at the Foundation that she did not want to focus on her illness, but rather on women around her who needed cancer treatments.

She went into action and founded the Woman to Woman Campaign at the Pacific Shores Hematology Oncology Foundation; and within a short time, she was helping qualified women gain access to needed cancer care.

Last month, at the “Open Canvas” event in Long Beach, we had gathered to admire paintings and art from cancer patients and care givers.

We were to address the attendees to explain the mission of the Foundation and the goals of the Woman to Woman Campaign.

Jeanne was sitting by the window, seemed fatigued, and had her oxygen on.

She made it very clear though, that she intended to go on and speak about the Woman to Woman campaign as planned.

I introduced her; she stood straight and took her oxygen off, just as she had taken her wig off right before speaking at the same event two years ago!

To me, she looked like a warrior, a real hero, selfless in the pursuit of her passion; so endearing, so touching; she explained how she was fortunate to have access to the treatments she needed but worried about women who were less fortunate.

She asked us to help this cause.

That is how I will always remember her; she taught us by example that no matter what difficulties we may face, we can survive beyond our own lives with the memories we create, and the seeds of good will we plant around us.

She succeeded; her legacy lives on, our love for her is enduring, and we are so proud that the Woman to Woman Campaign is named after her; the campaign is a young and healthy tree; she planted the seed, and the tree has many keepers to lovingly tend to it as it bears fruit.

President, Pacific Shores Hematology – Oncology Foundation

“Losing someone close to you leaves a great void. Assisting those who are struggling to survive helps keep the spirit of our loved ones alive and honors their battles.”

---Peter Ferrera, MD, Vice President, PSHOF & Co-Chairman, W2W Campaign

Jeanne's inspiration to create the Woman to Woman Campaign will help so many facing the challenges of cancer. With strength, determination and a voice after her own diagnosis of cancer came a passion to let all women have a chance to have equal treatment fighting the beast. Pacific Shores Hematology-Oncology Foundation is sincerely dedicated to the Woman to Woman Campaign and will forever make all of us proud as well as our special angel, Jeanne.

---Nancy Illian Board Member, PSHOF & W2W committee member

"Can you imagine being diagnosed with cancer and you have little or no medical insurance or support?

For this reason, Jeanne Brodeur, Founding Chair, organized the Woman to Woman Campaign designed to enable treatment, care and hope for women undergoing these stressful times of their lives. Throughout her dedication she herself was challenged with her own battle."

---Lois Kearney, Board Member PSHOF and A Very Grateful Survivor

Jeanne has left a legacy of her compassionate spirit

that will live on in this Foundation.

The Woman to Woman campaign

will be named in her honor.
